Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor, journalist and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up with her family in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. Since 1981 she started reporting on the White House. In 1988, she became the chief reporter for the congressional section. She became Chief White House reporter in 1992 and the head Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as a guest on TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She was on the panel during 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was the former chairman for Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her contribution to defend First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-contra case and tax reform. Mitchell traveled with President Ronald Reagan on numerous trips for world summits and wrote extensively.
